The Housing Authority of the City of Montgomery, Alabama

HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM

(Section 8)

The Montgomery Housing Authority administers approximately 1,800 Housing Choice Vouchers, which allow qualified individuals a broader choice in housing options in Montgomery, Alabama. A voucher is an agreement between the housing authority, the participating private landlord, and the qualified voucher holder. The voucher holder can choose a rental property which has passed Federal Housing Quality Standards (HQS), and the Montgomery Housing Authority will assist in paying their rent. The amount of assistance is based on the family income. Residents must abide by the lease signed with the landlord, and the landlord must enforce the lease. Both the resident and landlord must maintain the property in order for it to pass annual HQS inspections, allowing it to remain on the Section 8 program.

Applications for the HCVP (Section 8) program are not available at this time. When they become available, public announcements will be made and information on how to apply will be published on this website.

The Housing Choice Voucher Administrative Plan dated March 18, 2008 can be found here.
